In fact there are many socialising agents in the lives of children but the most influential socialising agents are called role models. A role model is a person who guides, motivates and inspires a student towards learning and life. Having a role model in life is important
to set high standards and high goals. The objective of being a role model is not to create photocopies but to trigger a thought, an assurance, a vision, a character and a way of life that can serve as the impetus for a student’s personal and professional growth. Children need role models to become emotionally mature and culturally enriched human beings. Now, the pertinent question arises, “Is there any dearth of role models for youngsters?” Obviously no, role models may be famous persons, parents, ordinary people even plants and animals can be role models. Children learn a lot by observation and so mothers are the first role models for them.
As our Ex President Mr. Abdul Kala Azad admitted that the birds were the sources of inspiration for him as he said that “The bird flight entered into me and created a special feeling.” He also admitted to have three teachers in his life who gave him three unique characteristics. By his father he got a moral value system. Secondly, the teacher’s who shaped his life with dreams and aims. Finally the education and learning process which culminated in the creation of professional capability leading to confidence and will. Our leaders are also the immortal sources of inspiration for the whole world. For example, Gandhi g is the role model for the whole world because of his simplicity and the way of his life. Swami Dayan was known for his self confidence; good time management, motivating and decision making capabilities. However, a tree can also be the source inspiration as tree never complains nor judges the richness or the poverty of the soil to which it is rooted. The tree extends its roots deep into the soil to draw the most and the best out of the circumstances and situations to which it is bound. There is indeed a lot to learn from a tree.
You must have also heard the inspirational story of Raj who was inspired just by a squirrel. It can be concluded that there is NO DEARTH OF ROLE MODELS for youngsters. The whole nature surroundings is full of role models. Need is to identify them and try to learn from their motivating aspects, instead of trying to be photocopies of them.
